REDUCING WEIGHT THROUGH COMPUTATIONAL DESIGN IS THE FUTURE OF HIGH-PERFORMANCE COMPETITION.
In this exciting project, our team worked closely with Stark to achieve the perfect balance between functionality and aesthetics. Our collaboration resulted in the development of a functional texture that not only reduces the total weight of the Stark Varg fairing by 7%, but also adds to the overall visual appeal of a part of the motorcycle that is often overlooked, the inner face of the fairing.
Our approach to design ensures that every aspect of a product serves a practical purpose, without compromising on its aesthetic value. With every gram counting towards efficiency and high performance, this reduction in weight has a huge impact.
Working in collaboration with Stark, we established a set of basic criteria and objectives for our 3D pattern algorithm, including considerations for injection molding manufacturability. Computational Design allowed us to quickly and efficiently iterate among countless shapes and geometries that met all of these specifications.
Through this process, we were able to incorporate a variety of innovative 3D patterns into the design, ensuring the final product was both lightweight and efficient, without sacrificing strength or durability. The result was a striking inner fairing pattern for the Stark Varg Electric Motocross Bike that not only met the functional requirements but also contributed to the overall visual brand language of the bike.
Computational design offers several advantages over traditional design methods when it comes to iterating through complex patterns and geometries. One major advantage is the speed and efficiency with which the design process can be executed. With computational design, thousands of iterations can be produced and evaluated in a fraction of the time it would take to do so manually.
Another advantage is the ability to explore new and innovative designs that were previously impossible or too difficult to achieve with traditional methods. This opens up new possibilities for creating complex and functional textures that can be used in a variety of industries, from automotive to aerospace.
